  1. When is the best time to visit Il Muran Lentim Eco-camp? 

Maasai Mara, with its abundance of wildlife and temperate climate, is genuinely an all-year-round safari destination. Therefore, Il Muran Lentim Eco-camp welcomes both local and international guests all year through for ecstatic wild experiences in the heart of Masai Mara National Reserve. The best time to visit Il Muran Lentim eco-camp depends on what you want to experience.

January

January presents an opportunity for nature photographers and enthusiasts to experience the magic of Mara. Visitors also see wildlife including large herds of elephants, giraffes, warthogs, and the cats of Masai Mara. These include lions, cheetahs, and leopards. There are plenty of baby animals in the park following the calving season that begins in December. Bird watching and wildlife viewing are the common activities in Masai Mara for January visitors.

February

Masai Mara receives a bit more rainfall in February. This month presents perfect opportunities for wildlife viewing. As with January, this is the best time to witness the births of the savannah mammalian calves. Bring a lot of sunscreen creams since February is the hottest month in Kenya.

March

During this time, Masai Mara is less crowded and the rates are lower. This makes it the best time to visit Il Muran Lentim eco-camp for an uninterrupted stay. The afternoon showers may result in muddy roads but won’t interfere with your experience at Il Muran Lentim eco-camp. The average precipitation in March is 145mm which flourishes the Masai Mara grasslands. Despite the muddy roads, March offers exquisite sunrises and sunsets. The main activities in Masai Mara in March include bird watching and wildlife viewing. You are likely to come across elephants grazing in the open plains of Mara and large troops of Olive baboons. Impalas, gazelles, warthogs, buffalos, ostriches, and hyenas.

The Green Season

April

April is the wettest month of the year in Masai Mara. The low-hanging clouds present the perfect weather for outstanding wildlife photography. During the day, the beautiful sunshine offers spectacular sights of the flora and fauna of the great Mara. The roads can be challenging to pass through but the park offers excellent views of wildlife. These may include large herds of buffalos and elephants grazing in the open plains of Mara. It is also common to see warthogs, gazelles, and impalas. The roaring Mara River offers exciting sights of hippos and their calves when they come out to the shallow waters. April also presents an opportunity for birdwatching across the green grasslands of Masai Mara.

May

Rainfall starts to decrease in May in preparation for the Great Migration season. During this time, the Mara presents wildlife viewing and birdwatching opportunities. Some of the wildlife you might come across include elephants, waterbucks, lions, gazelles, leopards, baboons, and warthogs. Masai Mara is home to countless bird species.

June

The green season ends in June, presenting lower rainfall and a cooler climate. June is also the driest month of the year with low precipitation averaging 95mm, about 12 days of showers. Guests can spot plenty of wildlife as the busiest season of the year begins. These may include hippos in River Mara, buffalo, giraffes, impalas, zebras, gazelles, waterbucks, baboons, and elephants grazing in the extensive Mara grasslands. You can also view the big cats of Maasai Mara in action and large flocks of the Mara bird species. In the last weeks of June, game viewing becomes the main activity at the park when more guests start arriving at the onset of the migration season.

The Migration Season

July - September

July marks the beginning of the migration season. The weather is cool and dry with exciting wildlife viewing opportunities. The average daytime temperatures remain at 20°​C but the nighttime temperatures drop to an average of 10°​C. July experiences limited showers approximating 11 days of rainfall with 80mm average precipitation. This is a good time to visit Maasai Mara for guests who want to experience the thrill of the great wildebeest migration. Besides, there is a lot of action in the thinning Mara grasslands where predators prey on the Savannah herbivores. Game drives become even more exciting with spectacular wildlife including buffalos, wildebeests, cheetahs, leopards, lions, vultures, and zebras. During this time is when you have the chance to catch the thrilling Great Migration with zebras and wildebeests crossing River Mara. The rates are higher and the number of tourists increases every day.

The wildlife season

October

The first weeks of October are dry and also windy. Guests experience enraptured sights of the Mara sunrises and sunsets with high daytime temperatures of 28°​C and nighttime lows of 13°​C. Once again, early mornings can be very chilly. The short grasslands of the Mara offer exciting game viewing experiences. As the Great Migration season comes to an end, the park is less crowded and the rates are also lower. In mid-October, the short rain season approaches with an average precipitation of 100mm afternoon showers. October offers the best chances to spot the Mara predators in action. The leopards, cheetahs, and lions are out in the grasslands to hunt down the Mara savannah creatures. It is possible to catch sites such as impalas, gazelles, Topi, elephant herds, and much more wildlife.

November

November experiences an average of 20 days of rainfall. The daytime temperatures go up to 26°​C high while the nighttime temperatures may drop to 15°​C on average. The Great Migration of wildebeests comes to a stop when they move back into Serengeti. November presents the best chance to catch a glimpse of the last days of migration. There is a lot of wildlife in the park with the lions waiting for prey by the banks of River Mara. November is the best time to visit Masai Mara for visitors who are looking to see the Mara wildlife extensively.

The festive season

December

The festive season is also an excellent time to see the Mara wildlife. Il Muran Lentim eco-camp offers exciting opportunities for families to celebrate Christmas together at affordable rates. Masai Mara is warm in December even though you might expect scattered rainfall throughout the month. It had average precipitation of 115 mm and temperatures as high as 27°​C and as low as 15°​C at night. In December, plenty of the Savannah creatures also give birth to their offspring. Photographers and nature enthusiasts who want to experience the calving at the Mara can opt to visit in December.

All in all the rainy months can make it difficult to navigate major roads into the dense African bush. At the same time, the Mara offers ecstatic views after the rains when the flora and fauna come to life. It is less crowded and the rates are incredibly lower than in the high season. Guests can travel to Il Muran Lentim eco-camp at any time to experience the magical Mara sceneries and wildlife. Maasai Mara is a great place to visit and have a great time during any of the five seasons outlined above.

2.       What should I pack?

While we offer comfortable accommodation, we recommend the following essential items:

  • A jacket for cold nights and raincoats for chilly mornings

  • A pair of hiking boots for walking safaris

  • A pair of sunglasses and a hat

  • Long sleeve quick-dry tops and pants for sun and bug protection.

  • A camera to keep the memories

  • A pair of binoculars

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug repellant

  • A travel charger or extra phone batteries

It would help to back in a solid and compact bag when traveling to Il Muran Lentim eco-camp, Maasai Mara.

3. What is the weather like in Maasai Mara?

Maasai Mara is located just south of the equator at elevation of 1500 meters and 2150 meters (4875 and 7052 feet) so the weather remains cool throughout the year, but nights can get a bit chilly. Average day time temperature is around 25C (77F) from June to August and night time temperature can be around 10C (50F). From September through May, the daytime temperature is around 26C to 28 C (79F - 82F) and night time temperature is around 13C (55F). There are two rainy seasons in Mara - short rains and long rains. Short rains season is usually November to December. March to May is known as long rains season with April being the wettest month. June to October are driest season.

4.       Are your tents waterproof?

Yes. Our tents at Il Muran Lentim eco-camp are waterproof. You can rest assured of warm and cozy accommodation with us while visiting the Mara.

5.       What makes the eco-camp eco-friendly?

We are consistently striving to obtain an eco-certification. Some of our efforts to maintain the fragile Mara eco-system intact include the following:

6.       What else can I do at The Eco Camp?

7.       Is there a tour guide for your area?

Yes. We have incredible guides who are knowledgeable about the renowned Maasai Mara and its surroundings. Our head tour guide, Antony is exceptionally talented and will ensure you get to see all the wildlife you want to see at the park. He can provide full or half-day game drives.

8.       What's really included in the price?

The price includes accommodation per night and all meals. We are happy to offer a package price with game drives and other activities upon request.

9.       Do you cater to children and families?

Yes. We are happy to welcome families to Il Muran Lentim eco-camp. We feature a deluxe tent with a Queen bed and a deluxe tent with twin beds, perfect for families and groups of travelers looking for an exciting adventure in the Masai Mara.

10.       Should I be worried of wild animals?

The wildlife has a right of way through our eco-camp. However, our warrior guards are always on duty to ensure the safety of all guests. We will provide a briefing upon check in. Our warrior guards will escort you to your tents in the evening and will always be nearby to ensure safety. It’s a privilege to share the space with the wildlife and it gives our guests an opportunity to view wildlife from the terrace or from the comfort of their tents.

12.       How do I get to Il Muran Lentim Eco-camp?

We are located at Talek, Ol Kiombo, Masai Mara in Narok County on the border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Guests traveling from Nairobi can access our property via air or road. The closest airstrip is Ol Kiombo and we offer transfers from there at an additional cost. The airstrip is 30 minutes away. It’s approximately 5 hours drive from Nairobi. We are happy to give directions over the phone.

13.       Do I have to pay park fees?

Yes, there’s an entrance fee you have to pay when you go on game drives in Mara. You can get the rates by visiting this website:

This is paid directly to Maasai Mara park authorities.

14.       What wildlife can I see while staying at Il Muran Lentim Eco-camp?

Il Muran Lentim eco-camp allows you to have an authentic African wilderness experience. There’s a lot of wildlife activity near our camp. It’s possible to see giraffes, zebras, hippos. elephants and more from our camp. We have a pair of Dik diks that can be seen on our property early in the morning. Baboons sometime pay us a visit. We have spotted over 30 different species of birds on our property.

15.       What types of rooms are there at Il Muran Lentim Eco-camp?

We have two main room types:

  • Deluxe Tent with 1 king or two twin beds

  • Standard Tent with 1 king or two twin beds

Our rooms come with towels, private bathrooms, blankets, and work desks. We provide daily housekeeping for all our guests. our rooms come with other amenities such as:
